And because she is a quilter, part of her wedding planning was to complete 13 quilts to celebrate the quilter she has become. 

The idea of the 13 quilts stems from the dowry quilts our pioneer women would complete before they were married.

She is all grown up and married.

Family was re-united

And new bonds were strengthened

Birthdays were sung

I was there last weekend.I got home on Monday and yesterday had to go to work.. :(I was not very functional but what can you do?

Before I left I was busy getting ready. I sewed a couple of blouses, but only one made it to market. 

My sister gave me this button last year and thought it look super cute on my new blouse.

Last weekend I finished all the blocks and got most of the rows sewn together.


This is how the quilt looked at the beginning of last weekend.

I had added the four square blocks and sewn the blocks into rows by the end of the weekend.

This weekend, I finished sewing the rows together. Her new line for Free Spirit is called Silent Cinema and it's a must have in my stash.


This is a big statement for me since I have not bought fabric as a 'just because I love it' since Market last fall. I have been tempted... but have not fallen.

Quite a treat in the middle of the week but when you have a coupon that expires the next day... well you make time to go.


We saw The Lincoln Lawyer and I was very surprised. The movie was actually VERY good. I was surprised because I'm not a huge fan of Matthew McConaughey. I am a huge fan of most anything star related, so this was right up my alley. The fact that the piece is handmade (that star is paper pieced!!) and signed by the artist / quilter made it extra special.

I headed out this morning and picked up a few treats, ran some errands and grabbed a pizza. Now I have setup my workstation, have my book queued up (I am Number Four by Pittacus Lore), and I'm ready to get going!

I love going to this retreat. This is my second year going and it was just as wonderful as last year.


There were less guild members this year (about 80 or so) but this gave us more room to spread out and more space to walk around and really see everyone's projects. 


I love that this retreat is in January. I started with the engines revving to go but work got in the way and I felt very uninspired during summer.

Still, I got a fair amount of quilting done. 


All my Schnibbles got quilted in 2010 - I only have one straggler left to be bound which I will include among my first few projects in 2011.

Not that I'm complaining since it means that I didn't have to water the sapling we planted in spring.

It's been quite hot this summer and this rain definitely came at a good time. Yesterday we finally got some sunshine which allowed me to take pics of some of my recent finishes.

Last year the economy had really slowed work down quite a bit but this year it has been non-stop, go go go since mid May and there is no end in sight. I work in a position where I have to do the work, it's not something that I an just walk away or check out over the weekend and come back to it on Monday. I was able to pull out the freezer paper without tearing out the seams. Woo hoo!!!  
The stitching went fast and, I think, with a bit of practice and more thought as to thread and needle, the stitches might become invisible.

I had known this was the case after she made this gorgeous piece back in December. Until then, I always felt she was just dabbling in the craft. But as her talent grows it's like seeing a child take her first steps and then run off on her own.

I took a class with Karen about 11 years ago when I had just started quilting and Karen was at the Vermont Quilt Festival teaching her NY Beauty pattern. I loved her color theory and I quickly figured out that I like taking classes that have more to offer than just a pattern.

Although I didn't get a start on my March entry for the BOM quilt, I was able to get a start on my PinWheel Sampler quilt.


I'm using the Garden Party layer cake I picked up at the quilt show a couple of weekends ago. It's turning out quiet nice. My Daughter is also working on her sampler using Momo's Freebird line.

The Dallas Guild puts on a wonderful Show in March called Dallas Quilt Celebration. This year's theme was the Log Cabin quilts (A Log Cabin Odyssey) and I find it funny that, although I took many pictures, only one log cabin quilt ended up photographed.

I was hoping it would arrive so that I could put the finishing touches and send it with my daughter to it's new owner but unfortunately I could not bind it in time.


I did put the final stitches on it this evening, threw it in the wash to get the appropriate wrinkles and it will go out in the mail tomorrow.

I had three of my REEEALLLLY old pieces quilted in January but I had not gotten around to binding them. Last month I put the last stitches on two of them.


It's a Jungle Out there is my first Stack n Whack. I made it with some really cute jungle prints. I really shouldn't have but they are sooooo darn cute and I know I can find something wonderful to make with them! Look at those blues and neutrals and... There are two more waiting for someone to claim them so... If you HAVE to have it (like me) don't wait, just take the plunge! LOL!
